There aren’t really any formalities when signing up. Just be sure to follow some best practices. Take your time creating a decent profile otherwise you risk having your account suspended.
The personality test scores you on basic personality traits like beliefs, motivation, loyalty and so on.
It’s a good way to get started and you might learn something about yourself in the process.
Is the Personality Test Worth Doing?
In my view yes. Doing the personality questionnaire has the added bonus that when someone views your profile they’ll get an instant “head up” about you and whether you might be a match. If you don’t do this they’ll just see a blank space.
When someone’s done the test you’ll see how they compare to you in terms of their lifestyle, their interests and their core values. Let’s be honest, there isn’t much point in wasting time contacting someone who’s on a different planet to you personality wise is there?
Personally I will skip profiles where the person hasn’t done the test because to me it hints that they are not really serious. Many other people do the same.
Who Will I Find on MexicanCupid?
MexicanCupid tells us that there are 2 million registered singles on the site. Certainly you won’t have trouble finding people to chat with on there. But whether or not they are close by enough for you to meet is another story.
Long Distance Relationships?
If you are prepared to travel a bit you will find you have far more dating prospects open to you. Most people on MexicanCupid are realistic and they know that any relationship they create there is likely to be a long distance one.

Long distance relationships can have their fair share of challenges but they can also be extremely exciting and romantic.
Overall I found the site was a mixture of different people wanting different things. Here is what I discovered by doing some scouting about:
- Mexican women who want to find foreign husbands – about 30%
- Western men –from US, Canadian, Europe – looking for Mexican women to marry – about 30%
- Mexican men and women dating among themselves – about 20%
- Casual daters looking to meet anyone – the rest
Of course these aren’t precise numbers but just what I found from my own little survey.
MexicanCupid Membership Plans
Cupid sites let you do some communication before you actually decide to pay for anything. MexicanCupid isn’t any different in that respect. When you first join you’ll start off with the basic free membership plan.
This will allow you to put your details out there and start fishing about for dating prospects. When you find those “dateable people” you won’t be able to reach out to them.
Not if they are also on the free plan.
That’s why creating a good profile pays dividends.
A good profile shows people you’re serious and it means you’re more likely to receive interest from paying members. Another bonus is that you’ll automatically appear higher when people search.
Not surprisingly empty profiles are given a low priority and appear at the bottom of the list.
Paying members will always be able to contact you. They don’t have any restrictions on sending messages on instant chat.
The Gold and Platinum plan are the site’s paid memberships. Both will give you full access to messaging, advanced searching, live chat, and the ability to upload your own videos. The Platinum plan gives you a few extra perks like the use of the site’s translator.

Whether Platinum is worth the extra though depends on how much you intend to use the site. For casual visitors it’s probably not worth it.
